Mitchells Plain Titans lace up for annual road race

The City of Cape Town proudly supports the annual Mitchells Plain Titans Athletic Club Half Marathon, set to take place on Saturday, 11 November 2023. Visitors and residents are reminded of the road restrictions and closures that will affect traffic flow in the area. Read more below:
Around 3 000 runners are expected to participate in the 2023 edition of the Mitchells Plain Titans Athletic Club Half Marathon.
Apart from the main 21km half-marathon route, there will also be a 10km race and a 5km Fun Run, all starting at Rocklands Sports Complex, with the first race sprinting off from 06:00.
The race route, which winds through the streets of the vibrant Mitchells Plain community, offers participants a chance to experience the sights and sounds of this inimitable part of Cape Town.
The sought-after half marathon route takes runners from Rocklands, towards Baden Powell Road and a meeting with the sea at Mnandi Beach, before heading back to the Rocklands Sports Field for a photo finish.
‘The Mitchells Plain Titans half marathon means more than just a race for many of its participants. It's an opportunity to unite with like-minded individuals who share the same passion for running and to honour the strong sense of community that exists in Mitchells Plain. This event inspires and encourages people to push themselves to the limit, and the City of Cape Town is proud to support an initiative making an immense contribution to community development by supporting local suppliers and promoting a healthy lifestyle through running,’ said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Road Closures and Parking
To accommodate the race and its associated festivities, a number of roads will be closed in and around Mitchells Plain.
The following road closures will be implemented on Saturday, 11 November 2023 from 05:00:
• Caravelle Road – between Weltevreden Road and Merrydale Avenue
• Weltevreden Road – between Eisleben Road and Caravelle Road
• Park Avenue – between Caravelle Road and Spine Road
• Spine Road – between Merrydale Road and Park Avenue
• Merrydale Road – between Spine Road and Eisleben Road
• Lukannon Road – between Weltevreden Road and Pavillion Road
• Pavillion Road – at Baden Powell
Visitors and residents are advised to take note of the temporary road closures that will be in place and are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly.
Ample parking has been secured at the following locations for participants, spectators and crew:
• Glendale High School
• Cedar High School
• Rocklands Sports Field
